The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) launched The Ride Together Rewards: Baltimore Transit Incentives Program on Saturday. The program is intended to entice commuters in the Baltimore region to try transit.

Commuters who are new transit users will receive free transit passes during promotional periods. In addition, employers can receive $1,000 per month over a three-month period with a $3,000 cap to purchase transit passes for employees through Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) FareShare employer transit benefits program.

“Maryland is focused on delivering a reliable multimodal transportation network – providing access and connectivity for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and those using Maryland’s various transit options,” Maryland State Highway Administrator Will Pines said. “By encouraging people to utilize our highway, sidewalk and trail connections to access transit, we’re working together to ease congestion, preserve our infrastructure, benefit the environment and maximize economic opportunity.”

New transit users and employers can take advantage of MTA’s services, including local bus, metro subway, light rail, commuter bus and MARC train.

Upcoming promotional periods for new users are now through Nov. 8, Dec. 1-8 and Jan. 1-8. MDOT will announce additional promotional periods on its social media accounts, the program’s website and through MTA’s social media accounts.

The program is part of MDOT’s efforts to ease traffic congestion and strengthen travel options.
