Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) recently resumed Red and Gold Line service at Garnett Station after a six-week hiatus for platform renovations. By temporarily ceasing service to the station, MARTA saved $5 million and approximately four months of construction time.

Workers replaced 44-year-old platform pavers on the upper concourse and worked ahead to replace pavers on the lower concourse. Other work at the station will continue with uninterrupted service. Continued work includes heavy cleaning and pressure-washing, windscreen replacement, and application of graffiti-resistant coating and sealant to wall surfaces.

Work also ensured customer and employee safety, and was conduct by MARTA’s construction partners including Carroll Daniel, C.D. Moody Construction Company Inc., H&M Restoration Service LLC, Level Construction Services Inc., Schindler Elevator Corporation, SRC Ventures LLC, and Williams Tile and Marble Company.

The Garnett Station Rehabilitation project is part of MARTA’s Station Rehabilitation Program that is designed to improve and enhance safety and aesthetics at all 38 rail stations. It is a multi-year, approximately $1 billion program.

MARTA also has partnered with the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and the Project for Public Spaces to transform the plaza’s large concrete space into a welcoming, engaging environment designed to promote community connection for the 2026 World Cup.
