Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) Air Division Director and International Administrative Vice President Mike Mayes was appointed last week to a two-year term on the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA’s) Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC).
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as a voice for workers on the ASAC, and I look forward to working with fellow ASAC members in the effort to protect and enhance aviation security,” Mayes said.
In this role, he will act as a labor organization representative to speak for airport construction and maintenance contractor employees. The committee as a whole advises and recommends actions related to aviation security to the TSA Administrator.
“Frontline workers play a central role in carrying out TSA directives and upholding aviation security, and having their voices represented on the ASAC will inform its work,” TWU International President John Samuelsen said. “Mayes has an abundance of unmatched knowledge, thanks to his decades of experience in the aviation industry.”
Mayes brings to the role 34 years of experience in the aviation industry. In his work with the TWU, he has also helped oversee 65,000 flight attendants, ramp agents, fleet service workers, flight training crew, instructors, dispatchers and aircraft/airport maintenance workers.
