The Public-Private Partnership (P3) Compressed Natural Gas Fueling program recently was awarded Project of the Year by the Beaver County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers.

The fueling station is located at the Beaver County Transit Authority.

The $84.5 million statewide project also won the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania award.

The engineers award was presented to Larson Design Group for its 20-year P3 agreement to design compressed natural-gas fueling stations that will be installed at 29 public-transit agency sites throughout the state.

Larson is working with Trillium CNG that will oversee the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the fueling stations.

“We applaud the work of Larson and Trillium in winning this professional recognition and for advancing Gov. (Tom) Wolf’s efforts to help generate a market for abundant, cleaner burning natural gas,” Leslie S. Richards, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation secretary, said. “The Wolf administration is working hard to ensure our various P3 program are delivering improvements for the people of Pennsylvania.”

Trillium CNG also will be upgrading its existing transit maintenance facilities.

Compressed natural-gas fueling will be accessible to the public at six transit agency sites.

When the program is completed, it will fuel more than 1,600 buses.
