The U.S. Senate confirmed Ronald Batory to serve as administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) on Tuesday, bringing a confirmation process that’s been on hold since August to an end.

Following Tuesday’s confirmations, U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD), the chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, called Batory “highly qualified” to serve as FRA administrator. Batory has more than 45 years of experiences in the railroad industry, holding both management and operational positions.

“(Batory’s) conformation is a win for railroad safety, and I expect him to have an impact,” Thune said.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) also applauded Batory’s confirmation. AAR CEO Edward Hamberger called Batory “supremely qualified” to guide the FRA. Hamberger added that Batory is “equipped with years of real word experience that will surely assist him in his oversight duties.”

The Senate also confirmed Raymond Martinez to serve as administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Adam Sullivan to serve as assistant secretary of government affairs.

“I’m also pleased to see Ray Martinez confirmed as the administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Adam Sullivan as Assistant Secretary of Government Affairs,” Thune said. “They are also highly qualified and will help the Department of Transportation fulfill its mission. I look forward to working with all three officials in the months ahead.”
