The Rail Customer Coalition recently called Congress and the Surface Transportation Board (STB) to address issues with CSX rail service that continue to cause “significant problems” for shippers despite being highlighted in a listening session last month.

In letters to STB Acting Chairwoman Ann Begemann, STB Commissioner Deb Miller and key members of Congress, RCC noted that major service changes with little advanced notice, missed switches and poor communication on delivery status are among key issues facing CSX.

“With CSX closing additional yards since the listening session, rail customers remain very concerned about the resiliency of the rail network to meet customer demand now and into the future,” the letter stated. “The RCC would like to request a meeting with each of you to provide an update on continuing and in some cases deteriorating CSX service conditions, and to discuss actions the Board could take that would fix the underlying problems.”

RCC called for proactive measures to address ongoing issues, including investigation of root causes of service disruptions, expedited alternative service options, and key service metric reporting. Additionally, RCC called for regulatory reforms, including reciprocal switching, to give rail customers access to more options and to boost competition.
