The U.S. Senate recently confirmed David Pekoske as the seventh administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) following a nomination by President Donald Trump.
“I am deeply honored to take on this role as the next TSA administrator and put my experience to use in protecting and securing our nation’s transportation system,” Pekoske said. “TSA’s mission is critical to the security of our homeland and the American people. I look forward to continue serving our great nation alongside the dedicated men and women of TSA.”
As part of his new role, Pekoske now heads a workforce of more than 60,000 personnel stationed at approximately 450 airports across the country. He also now leads the Federal Air Marshal Service and shared security for highways, railroads, ports, mass transit systems, and pipelines.
Prior to his confirmation, Pekoske most recently worked as a government services industry executive where he headed efforts in counterterrorism, security and intelligence support services to a number of government departments.
He has also served as the vice commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) where he led various operational and staff assignments and commanded six USCG operational units. Additionally, he has served as COO and component acquisition executive of the USCG.
Pekoske was sworn by Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Elaine Duke on Aug. 10.
