Delta SkyMiles members enrolled in CLEAR, a program that expedites the pre-check process, can use their fingerprints as their boarding pass at Reagan Washington National Airport.

The biometric boarding pass launched in May for the Delta Sky Club. It is being tested at Reagan Washington to determine if Delta and CLEAR’s system function well together.

It works by using fingerprints to identify passengers. No mobile or paper boarding pass is necessary.

“Customer and employee feedback has been extremely encouraging throughout our Delta Sky Club test and we expect that enthusiasm to continue with the boarding experience,” Delta’s Senior Executive Vice President & COO Gil West said. “It’s a win-win program. Biometric verification has a higher level of accuracy than paper boarding passes and gives agents more time to assist customers with seat changes and other skilled tasks instead of having to scan individual tickets – and customers have less to keep track of as they travel through the airport.”

If the test is successful, it also will be expanded to include baggage check.

Once testing is complete, the biometric boarding pass will become available everywhere in Delta’s network, West said.

Participation in the test is optional for Delta customers.
