The U.S. Department of Transportation recently launched a competition and is inviting Americans to submit ideas on how robotics can transform transportation networks.
The competition, the DOT Bots Challenge, seeks robotics technologies that can be used in transportation in various applications such as safety inspections, maintenance tasks and construction work
“From supersonic flight to autonomous vehicles to delivery drones, American innovation is already reshaping how we think about transportation,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. “To ensure America stays ahead of the race, we have to invest in our country’s best and brightest ideas – including robotics. I encourage all innovators to take advantage of this exciting opportunity and join the challenge. Together, we will revolutionize our roads, runways and railroads.”
Interested applications must submit concept papers describing their idea for a robotics solution that addresses public sector transportation needs. Five finalists will receive $100,000 and qualify for the next round. The finalists will be announced this fall.
The finalists will develop functional prototypes of their robotics solutions. One winner will receive a grand prize of $1 million. The winner will be announced in autumn 2027.
An informational webinar will be held on July 8 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 10.
