The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans two major expansion projects, one on I-55 and one on State Route 25. The projects are expected to improve daily commutes, strengthen commerce and position Central Mississippi for future growth.

The first project will widen I-55 expansion in Madison County by one lane in each direction between State Route 463 and Gluckstadt Road. The project will expand the corridor from four to six lanes and is expected to ease congestion and improve mobility. Work also will include installing lighting.

The second project will widen SR 25 in Rankin County from Grant’s Ferry Road to State Route 471. The project will enhance regional connectivity and accommodate future growth. Work also includes the construction of roundabouts at the SR 25 and SR 471 interchange.

The department will announce construction timelines and additional project details as planning and development move forward.

The 2026 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature passed House Bill 1938 that appropriated funding for capacity projects in Mississippi’s infrastructure.

“This coming year, MDOT will enjoy the largest budget we’ve ever had with the authority to spend upwards of about $2.3 billion dollars towards the advancement and enhancement of our transportation system across the state,” MDOT Executive Director Brad White said.
