The Maritime Administration (MARAD) recently awarded 37 projects $774 million in Port Infrastructure Development Program grants.
The program provides funding to modernize ports, strengthen supply chains, reduce time and costs for shippers, and drive down the cost of goods.
This round of grants was awarded to coastal seaports, Great Lakes ports and inland river ports nationwide. Projects include adaptable two-tier docks to support all-weather operations, upgrading screening technology to reinforce national security, expanding rail tunnels to boost capacity, and the construction of a cargo terminal that will improve efficiency.
“President Trump’s commitment to modernizing our port and maritime infrastructure has resulted in an unprecedented investment in our port infrastructure and is another significant investment in restoring America’s maritime dominance,” MARAD Administrator Stephen Carmel said. “These port improvements will have generational impacts and enhance the nation’s short and long-term economic competitiveness.”
“U.S. ports keep our grocery store shelves stocked, our energy supply chains resilient, and our export market strong,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. “Under President Trump’s America First agenda, investing in our ports means investing in American jobs, economic growth, and national security.”
There are more than 300 ports in the United States. They are operated by states, counties, municipalities, and private corporations.
