UK-based Hitachi Rail recently published its 2025 Sustainability Statement, highlighting its role in the transition to low-emission mobility and its progress toward its environmental, social and governance pillars.
“Hitachi Rail is a business with a clear social purpose and our 2025 Statement underlines that sustainability is at the core of our growth,” Giuseppe Marino, Hitachi Rail group CEO, said. “By embedding the PLEDGES strategy at the core of our operations and decision-making, we are positioning our business to meet global challenges and deliver on our mission: the sustainable mobility transition.”
PLEDGES is Hitachi’s new sustainability strategy. It consists of seven strategic pillars and includes targets it aims to achieve over the next three years including a 75 percent reduction in greenhouse gases at its operational sites by 2027.
The report re-affirms the company’s commitment to reducing environmental impact, the sustainable development of the mobility sector by driving innovation, and promoting responsible practices across its operations and partnerships.
Highlights include opening a carbon-neutral digital factory in Maryland, the expanded use of digital technologies and continued progress on tri-mode trains.
