The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) recently selected three design-build teams to pursue the US-70 Roosevelt Memorial Bridge project.

Teams were evaluated based on their approach to collaboration and risk management, key personnel assigned to the project, organizational structure, experience with similar projects, and other qualifications. The Oklahoma Transportation Commission awarded each of the top three teams, Manhattan Road & Bridge Co, Walsh Construction Co. and Zachry Construction Corp./Traylor Bros., with $2 million contracts.

The three teams now will work on proposals for an overall design, incorporating innovations and establishing construction phases, and will develop cost estimates.

“This method teams designers and builders together throughout the engineering process to promote greater innovation and expedite project completion by incorporating the builder’s preferred practices into the design,” ODOT Director of Design Justin Hernandez said.

ODOT will review the proposals and select one of the teams in the spring to deliver final design and construction services.

The $124 million project will replace the US-70 Roosevelt Bridge that opened in 1945. The bridge currently carries 8,500 vehicles daily over Lake Texoma in Bryan and Marshall counties. The proposed bridge will be more resilient during weather events, have wider lanes, improved lighting and modern safety features.

Construction will begin next summer.
