The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) recently began the $3.4 million replacement of a bridge on State Route 250 in the Village of Fairport.

The project will replace an existing bridge that was built in 1934. Other work includes installing sidewalks with Americans with Disabilities Act compliant curb ramps.

“The Village of Fairport is a jewel of the Finger Lakes region, with hundreds of thriving small businesses and residents who love the charm of the village vibe,” NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said. “This bridge replacement project on State Route 250 will enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, paving the way for a safer and more vibrant community, just as we did with the historic Fairport Lift Bridge rehabilitation a few years ago.”

State Route 250 is the main corridor through the village. The bridge runs under Main Street and carries State Route 250 over Thomas Creek and through the center of Fairport.

The road closed to through traffic on Monday and will remained closed for approximately four months during construction. Detour signs are in place. The pedestrian walkway on the east side of Main Street will remain open as will access to all businesses.
