San Fernando Transit Constructors (SFTC) recently selected Texas-based AECOM, a global civil engineering firm, to serve as lead designer under the SFTC joint venture team to advance the Phase 2 final design for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project.
The $3.57 billion project will be built on Van Nuys Boulevard and will provide a light rail alternative for the residents of Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta and Pacoima. It also will create new connections to new and existing local and regional transit services in the San Fernando Valley. There will be 11 stations along 6.7 miles.
“We are proud to support this landmark project, which will meet growing demands for public transit in the region,” Matt Crane, AECOM U.S. West region chief executive, said. “For over a decade, our transportation experts have played a critical role in delivering Southern California’s ambitious transit objectives. That experience prepares our teams to provide innovative engineering solutions that boost connectivity and improve the quality of life for the communities we serve.”
During phase two, street improvements will enhance accessibility and safety, and a 22-acre maintenance and storage facility will be built. Several buildings within the facility will be equipped with a solar-powered system.
