NJ TRANSIT recently signed a more than $25 million contract with French-based Alstom, a transportation equipment manufacturing company, to overhaul the agency’s 209 Multilevel II vehicles.
Multilevel II rail cars are required to undergo an overhaul every 10 years. The overhaul ensures the vehicles are in good repair and in compliance with federal safety standards, the American Public Transportation Association standards and any other mandated regulations.
Alstom will rebuild or replace truck components to original equipment manufacturer specifications.
“We are committed to restoring the performance of NJ TRANSIT’s fleet through comprehensive overhauls, ensuring our customer and their passengers benefit from safe, reliable and efficient transit services,” Michael Keroullé, Alstom Americas president, said. “This initiative underscores our dedication to maintaining the highest standards for our products for our customers over their entire lifecycle.”
Work will be performed at Alstom’s facility in Kanona, N.Y.
