Percentage of cancelled flights increased in November, USDOT report states

The percentage of flights cancelled in November was 0.5 percent, 0.4 percent higher than the year prior, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report.

The report examines on-time performance, mishandled baggage, and mishandled wheelchairs and scooters to provide consumers with information on the quality of services.

In November, there were 611,793 flights, 102.14 percent higher than November 2023 but 5.87 percent less than October 2024. Then marketing network carriers reported 614,597 scheduled domestic flights, 0.5 percent of which were cancelled.

The airlines with the highest cancellation rates were Frontier Airlines, Alaska Airlines Network, and United Airlines Network. JetBlue Airways, Delta Air Lines Network, and Allegiant Air had the lowest cancellation rates.

The on-time arrival rate was 84.9 percent, 1.1 percent lower than October and 1.4 percent lower than a year prior. The airlines with the highest on-time arrival rates were Hawaiian Airlines, Delta Air Lines Network, and Southwest Airlines. Frontier Airlines, Alaska Airlines Network, and United Airlines Network had the lowest rates.

Six tarmac delays of more than three hours on domestic flights, and two tarmac delays of more than four hours on an international flight, occurred in November.

The mishandled baggage rate was 0.39 percent.
