The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) recently awarded multiple projects statewide $18 million in funding that will be used to strengthen Florida’s supply chain and boost aggregate storage for asphalt and concrete production.

“Many Floridians don’t spend a lot of time thinking about construction materials until a disruption in our ability to supply those materials impacts their community,” Jared W. Perdue, Florida Department of Transportation secretary, said. “With the support and action of Gov. (Ron) DeSantis and the Florida Legislature, the transportation construction industry will be able to access these much-needed materials for our infrastructure projects that will help keep construction moving and on time.”

FDOT identified priority investments that would strengthen links in the supply chain. It also identified areas for increased storage capacity that allow more aggregate material to be readily available to major projects under the Moving Florida Forward Initiative.

Recipients include:

The Port of Tampa Bay was awarded $6.2 million to construct a Berth 218 aggregate terminal.

Florida Gulf & Atlantic Railroad was awarded $3.7 million to design and build a new aggregate terminal in Lake City.

JAXPORT was awarded $2.6 million for the development and environment phase of a project that will increase rail capacity and accommodate 15 acres of yard storage.
