The North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) recently announced it will be investing up to $600,000 to build rail infrastructure for US Forged Rings Inc.’s new manufacturing facility in Hertford County.

“This investment is about more than track,” Carl Warren, NCRR president and CEO, said. “We’re building opportunity in Hertford County, we’re strengthening North Carolina’s manufacturing footprint and we’re making sure this state is ready for long-term growth driven by freight rail.”

The three-phase project will construct a spur designed for US Forged Rings’s daily operations and long-term growth. Work will include ballast, ties and rail turnouts, engineering, drainage, signal work and other necessary improvements.

Once operational, US Forged Rings will use the facility to increase fabrication of steel piping and specialized components for industrial customers. The rail line is expected to receive and distribute at least 1,825 rail cars annually.

US Forged Rings plans to invest $875 million. The project is expected to create 625 full-time jobs.

The North Carolina Railroad Co., through NCRR Invests, uses private revenue to fund rail projects that attract new employers and expand existing industry in North Carolina.

The project has the support of the North Carolina Departments of Transportation and Environmental Quality and other government and private sector entities.
