Pennsylvania discusses this year’s completed road projects

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Mike Carroll and PennDOT District 9 Acting District Executive Vince Greenland recently discussed projects active or completed in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset counties this year’s.

“We are thrilled to have Secretary Carroll here today and for the opportunity to highlight some of the vitally important transportation projects we have completed in 2023 and those that will continue into next year,” Greenland said. “These projects reflect our ongoing dedication to build, maintain and enhance major and secondary corridors that allow travelers to safely and efficiently get to and from work, school and their daily activities throughout the year.”

In the six-county region approximately 120 roadway miles were paved, 344 bridges were rehabilitated, repaired, or replaced, nearly 400 miles were seal coated to preserve roadway surfaces and nearly 11,000 line miles were painted.

Projects include the $10.5 million resurfacing of I-99 from the turnpike to Sproul/Claysburg in Bedford County.

Between January and September, 4,357 roadway miles were improved statewide, including 1,322 miles of paving, 515 state and locally owned bridges were put out for bid to be repaired, replaced, or preserved, and 291 construction contracts for highway, bridge, and other improvement projects were completed.
