The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently announced more than $80 million in grant awards through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Funding was awarded to academic institutions, local governments, nonprofit organizations, and states. Projects will expand access to truck parking, improve safety in work zones, invest in technology, and address rural areas and high crash corridors.

“We depend on truck drivers every day, and we have a national responsibility to support their safety and job quality,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said. “Today, we are proud to deliver new funding that will improve safety on our nation’s roads.”

Among the funding recipients, Caldwell County, Texas, was awarded a $22.9 million Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant to design and build a truck parking plaza.

Memphis received a $22 million Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects (INFRA) program grant to add 125 truck parking spaces along I-40.

Florida received a $15 million INFRA grant for a new truck parking facility on I-4 between Tampa and Orlando with approximately 120 spaces, electric charging stations, and pedestrian infrastructure.

Caldwell Parish, La., received a $10.5 million RAISE grant to buy land and build a truck parking facility near the port and a highway.
