The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will make available nearly $2.3 billion in Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Grant Program funding.
Funding will be awarded to projects that expand and modernize intercity passenger rail. This includes revitalizing rail assets, such as fixing tracks, structures, and grade crossings.
Eligible applicants also can apply with projects that improve the safety, reliability, and performance of intercity passenger rail services; and project planning elements such as environmental review and final design.
The application deadline is March 7. Prior to the deadline, the FRA will provide technical assistance to potential applicants.
“This is one of the two most significant investments in the past 50 years to modernize passenger train service across the country,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said. “Americans deserve excellent passenger rail services, and through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we’re working to deliver it.”
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law expands the program’s scope, funding, and vision.
In a few weeks, additional will be made available for projects located on the Northeast Corridor.
In 2022, FRA made available more than $4.2 billion in funding and announced more than $607 million was awarded to 85 projects in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
