The West Virginia Department of Transportation’s (WVDOT) Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities recently awarded the West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW) in Charleston two grants.

“The Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities is excited to be able to provide matching funds for these worthwhile expansion projects at the CRW Airport,” Cindy Butler, Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities director, said. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with CRW for years to come.”

The Central West Virginia Airport Authority awarded the first grant, totaling $646,702, through the Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities as a match to a $12.4 million federal grant funding Yeager’s runway rehabilitation project.

The project will add an asphalt overlay on the entire runway and rehabilitate the runway lighting system. Work includes installing energy-efficient LED runway edge lights, electrical conductors, and runway exit sign modifications.

A second, $58,003 grant provides matching monies to a federal grant that funds an Environmental Impact Study on planned upgrades at Yeager. Upgrades include extending one of Yeager’s runways to 8,000 feet and adding runway safety areas.

The West Virginia Legislature disbanded the West Virginia Aeronautics Commission, State Rail Authority, Division of Public Transit, and Public Port Authority in March and grouped the former agency’s missions under the Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities.
