The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently announced it is offering bigger consumer rebates for electric vehicles.
The DEP 2022-2023 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate program has increased the rebate for the purchase of a new or used battery electric car or truck from $750 to $2,000 or $3,000, depending on household income.
In addition, eligible household income levels were deduced to $69,000 for a couple and $55,500 for a family of four.
The changes were effective Sept. 1.
The program has $2 million available, enough for approximately 1,000 electric vehicles.
Between March 2020 to March 2022, battery-electric-vehicle registrations in Pennsylvania increased from 11,343 to 23,689.
DEP also awarded $3.4 million in Driving PA Forward DC Fast Charging Grants for the installation of 54 DC fast chargers in 16 locations in major traffic corridors. Funding is through a $118.5 million settlement with Volkswagen.
The majority of the projects will help build out electric-vehicle corridors. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is developing the corridors.
Since launching in 2018, Driving PA Forward has funded the installation of 106 DC fast charging plugs in 34 locations statewide. It supports clean transportation projects. The program’s goal is to reduce the oxides of nitrogen emissions permanently.
