The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 3 opened bids for 60 contracts in 2021 with a value of nearly $61.3 million.

Thirty-one contracts were for bridge work, and 29 were for road work.

Last year, 23 miles of microsurfacing and high friction surface treatment, 487 miles of seal coating, and more than 68 miles of paving were completed. In addition, 20 bridges were replaced or rehabilitated, and preservation work was conducted on 10 bridges. Contractors or department forces worked on a total of 70 state-owned bridges.

The district also completed four embankment-failure projects and began work on two others.

The largest project was the $52 million Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation (CSVT) Project, expected to be completed this year. The project is CSVT’s fourth contract.

“PennDOT District 3 continues to invest in our transportation infrastructure by completing both large and small projects that impact the communities across the state,” Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf said. “The district maintains over 4,500 miles of roadway and 2,900 bridges across nine counties while balancing the needs of the interstate, national highway, secondary, and local networks that affect the region.”

PennDOT District 3 includes Bradford, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, and Union counties in north central Pennsylvania.
