Amtrak and Plenary Infrastructure Philadelphia (PIP) recently closed on a lease and development agreement concerning the restoration and renovation of the nearly 500,000-square-feet William H. Gray III 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.

Amtrak selected PIP as its master developer partner through a competitive process. PIP will refurbish and improve the historic building under the agreement as well as finance improvements and maintain the station for 50 years.

William H. Gray III 30th Street Station is Amtrak’s third busiest station. The building was built in the 1920s. PIP will modernize the facility while restoring and highlighting the building’s historic elements.

Other aspects of the renovation and modernization plan include bringing the station into good repair; renovating corporate office spaces in the upper levels of the station; enhancing operational efficiency through reconfiguration and modernization of back-of-house facilities to accommodate projected increases in ridership; providing expanded retail offerings to meet the needs of travelers and the local community; significantly enhancing the quality of customer experience by emphasizing convenience, usability and comfort; and creating an expanded and modernized concessions experience, which features retail and food and beverage offerings for travelers and employees.

The project is expected to begin next year and be complete in 2025.
