The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey July 2021 facility volumes report maintains volumes at airports and the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) system continue to be impacted by the pandemic.

Additionally, authorities said the analysis showed volumes at bridges and tunnels were at pre-pandemic levels — and port volumes continually established new cargo records for the last 12 months while achieving the highest July monthly total in the port’s history.

With regard to airports specifically, the Port Authority noted the estimated 7.6 million passengers airports handled represented a 42 percent decline from pre-COVID July 2019 volumes — but airport passenger volumes climbed by 14 percent from June 2021.

The four bridges and two tunnels under the Port Authority’s jurisdiction managed 10.7 million vehicles, per the report. This was the same as July 2019 and reflected a return to pre-pandemic traffic levels.

PATH showed there were 2.7 million riders in July 2021, according to the analysis, a decline of 62 percent from July 2019. But ridership climbed by 7.2 percent from June 2021.

The Port moved 758,810 20-foot equivalent units, per the July 2021 breakdown, with cargo volume up 14.5 percent from July 2019. The report indicated that in comparison to the previous month, cargo volumes rose by 1.3 percent from June 2021.
