The Nevada Transportation Board of Directors recently approved highway contracts and agreements for the upcoming year.
The projects include $10.8 million for repaving and installing a weigh-in-motion system on Interstate 15 near Jean; $16.6 million for repaving approximately 12 miles of Interstate 80 and installing a weigh-in-motion system in Humboldt County: and $38.8 million for replacing two bridge structures, rehabilitating and seismically retrofitting other bridge structures and restriping the interstate to add additional southbound lane near the I-515/U.S. 95 interchange in Las Vegas.
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reviewed contracts against NDOT engineering estimates and included disadvantaged business enterprise participation goals.
“Critical transportation investments ensure that we meet the state’s growing infrastructure needs while generating good-paying local jobs to help stimulate Nevada’s economy,” Kristina Swallow, NDOT director, said. “These vital projects and programs keep Nevadans, Nevada visitors, and our critical freight and services smoothly and safely moving, all while supporting Nevada jobs.”
The approved contracts will support an estimated 1,095 jobs, according to Council of Economic Advisers formulas.
More than 3,000 jobs have been supported by state transportation contracts and agreements since October.
For every $1 invested in public transportation projects, an estimated $2 to $6 is generated in local economic activity.
