The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has implemented three new safety recommendations from its 2019-2020 Most Wanted List of Transportation Safety Improvements.

Safety recommendations A-07-043, H-15-022, and R-17-022 were recently recategorized to “closed” – acceptable action, helping improve air, ground, and rail safety.

“Recommendations to change inadequate systems can and will save lives, which is why we push so long for some particularly impactful safety improvements, like this one,” NTSB Chairman Robert L. Sumwalt said.

A total of 38 recommendations from the list have now garnered implementation. Of the 268 safety recommendations covering 10 issue areas on the Most Wanted List, none of the recommendations the NTSB believes can and should be implemented by the end of this year, known as the focused 46, have been implemented.

“Today, transportation is safer than it was before these recommendations were implemented,” Sumwalt said. “But there is so much more to do.”

The Most Wanted List serves as the agency’s chief advocacy tool, identifying the top safety improvements capable of preventing accidents, minimizing injuries, and saving lives. The safety improvements are ripe for action now and would make a notable impact on transportation safety.
