New York has provided $151 million in additional funding through the PAVE NY Initiative to counties for the repair of roadways impacted by extreme weather. The funds will support 95 paving projects statewide by the end of the year.

“The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather has had devastating impacts on the State’s transportation network,” Marie Therese Dominguez, state Department of Transportation commissioner, said. “Through the renewal and hardening of our state’s infrastructure, New York continues to support the rejuvenation of our local communities and regional economic growth.”

The largest pavement renewal projects include those in the Mid-Hudson Valley, which will receive $22.7 million to renew 113.5 lane miles of roads, and projects in the Southern Tier, which will receive $19.6 million to renew 124 lane miles.

“New York sees our fair share of tough winters, which deteriorate our roads, create potholes, and cause frustration for drivers statewide,” Sen. Tim Kennedy (D-NY), chair of the Senate Committee on Transportation, said. “It’s imperative that we’re dedicating significant state resources to ensure these roads are properly repaired and maintained. With this investment announced by the Governor, the state is prioritizing safety, continuing to build robust infrastructure networks, and ultimately fueling a stronger economy.”
