The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently awarded Granite a $33 million contract for the reconstruction of four miles of State Route 99 near Kingsburg.
Work includes reconstructing 10 off- and on-ramps with hot-mix asphalt and reconstructing lanes in both directions with continuously reinforced concrete pavement.
“We are proud to be partnering with Caltrans on another SB 1-funded project to improve SR 99 through the heart of the Central Valley,” Jim Radich, vice president of Granite’s California operations, said.
Construction will begin during the second quarter of this year and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2021.
The majority of the project will be funded through the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The act will invest $54 billion over 10 years to improve the state’s transportation infrastructure.
The Illinois Department of Transportation awarded Granite’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Kenny Construction Co., a contract in December to rehabilitate portions of Interstate 94 at Montrose Avenue in Cook County.
Work includes a new roadway, underdeck lighting, and improvements to drainage and safety.
Construction will begin shortly and be completed in the fall.
Founded in 1922, Granite is one of the largest diversified construction and construction-materials companies in the country.
