The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently awarded $110 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to more than 70 airports nationwide for projects that increase safety and expand capacity.

Funding will be used to help build taxiways, modernize airport and runway infrastructure, improve airfield safety, and enhance firefighting and upgrade snow-removal equipment and facilities.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is proud to support projects to increase safety and efficiency on taxiways and runways at over 70 airports across the country,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said. “This is another good step in a multi-billion dollar modernization we’re delivering through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to make America’s aviation systems safer and more efficient.”

Grant awardees include:

Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina was awarded $43 million to construct a 6,400-foot end-around taxiway at the Runway 18C end that will increase safety and reduce air traffic delays.

Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Mich., was awarded $8.6 million to reconstruct an existing aircraft rescue and firefighting building.

Jamestown Regional Airport in North Dakota was awarded $1.3 million to rehabilitate an existing airport roadway to provide a path for vehicles, aircraft rescue and firefighting trucks, and ground-service equipment.
