The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) and the Women’s Transportation Seminar International (WTS) formed an alliance earlier this month to advance and support women in the transportation infrastructure sector.

The organizations plan to develop content for meetings and conferences, support mentoring programs, and publicize each other’s events as well as create opportunities for jointly sponsored workshops, webinars, and sessions.

The alliance’s goals are to promote the transportation infrastructure sector as a rewarding career option for women, provide professional development opportunities for women, encourage participation in organizational leadership activities, and recognize and advance women in the transportation infrastructure sector.

Maggie Walsh, WTS International chairwoman, said the memorandum “between WTS and ARTBA signifies the importance of promoting the many facets of the transportation sector as a rewarding career choice for women while furthering their participation, skill sets and careers to ensure the sector’s future success.”

The organizations hope to increase in the number of women entering the transportation workforce, Matt Cummings, 2017-2018 ARTBA chairman, said.

The alliance was formed at ARTBA’s National Convention in New York City.

WTS International has more than 6,500 members in 79 chapters worldwide and works to help advance women’s careers in transportation. ARTBA is the voice of the U.S. transportation design and construction industry.
