The U.S. Department of Transportation recently awarded infrastructure projects in 12 states $426 million through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects (INFRA) program.

The program invests in projects that improve road safety by building highways, bridges, and port infrastructure or boost domestic supply chains. This round of funding supports projects that will add lanes to some of the busiest highways, address congestion bottlenecks and expand capacity for bypasses.

Awardees include:

The Florida Department of Transportation was awarded $85 million to add a general-use lane in each direction along approximately 20 miles of I-4 between State Road 434 and State Road 472.

The city of Wichita and the Kansas Department of Transportation were awarded $53.5 million to reconstruct and widen approximately 2.5 miles of roadway along K-96 from four to six lanes.

The Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government in Louisiana was awarded $28 million to convert an existing signalized intersection into a grade-separated interchange along approximately 2.2 miles of Kaliste Saloom Road and approximately 3.5 miles of US-90.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority was awarded $25 million to convert a four-lane expressway into an eight-lane standard freeway.

The city of Savannah was awarded $11.3 million to construct a four-lane divided connector.
