Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer recently signed an executive order creating the Delaware Task Force on Sustainable Transportation Funding.

The task force will be responsible for addressing the challenges the state’s Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) faces to ensure Delaware’s infrastructure remains strong, reliable and sustainable. The TTF is a dedicated funding source for construction, maintenance, and improvement projects. The fund’s sustainability is at risk as a consequence of extreme weather, rising construction costs, aging infrastructure and changing travel patterns.

The task force will work with stakeholders, via public-private collaboration, to identify trends in transportation revenues, expenditures, and capital needs over the next 20 years. They also will seek other revenue sources and solutions to address transportation challenges and review the TTF’s financial condition.

Legislators, experts and union leaders will comprise the task force that will include at least 19 members. Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Shanté Hastings will serve as chairwoman.

The task force’s first meeting will be this month, and it will report its findings by December 2026.

“This Task Force will bring Delawareans together to think creatively and work with partners across sectors to deliver a transportation system that is equitable, sustainable, and ready for the future,” Hastings said.
