Iowa Interstate Railroad (IAIS) recently completed a hazmat training tank car.

The car will enhance the preparedness of first responders across the Iowa Interstate network. It features railcar telemetry technology, including GPS location and load status monitoring, and will be used to demonstrate how real-time information can be supplied during emergencies.

“This new hazmat training tank car, IAIS 0911, is a testament to our commitment to safety and community preparedness,” Greg Wilson, IAIS chief safety and sustainability officer, said. “It exemplifies our collaboration with first responders, business partners, and organizations like Operation Lifesaver to promote rail safety. We look forward to continuing our close work with emergency personnel across our network to support and enhance their training efforts.”

The emblem of Operation Lifesaver, a nationally recognized leader in rail safety education, is displayed on the tank car.

Following the completion of the project, IAIS thanked its safety and operations team members, and Raptor Tank Cleaning Systems for its work and cleaning services.
