Ed Bolen, president and CEO of the National Business Aviation Association, recently accepted an invitation to serve on the NextGen Advisory Committee.
The committee, established in 2010, provides independent advice and recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration on policy-level issues facing the aviation community regarding the modernization of the Air Traffic Management System.
It provides advice on National Airspace System performance metrics and airspace design initiatives, NextGen investment priorities, the deployment of DataComm, and specific technologies.
NextGen’s goal is to bring together technologies to reduce emissions, enhance safety, boost efficiency and capacity and other benefits.
“NBAA is honored to have been invited to serve on this committee, and we are pleased that (Transportation) Secretary (Elaine) Chao values the general aviation community’s input on NextGen,” Bolen said. “We want to ensure that America’s aviation system remains the world’s best for decades to come. We look forward to working with government and industry stakeholders, representing the industry’s many diverse interests, to ensure that vision remains a reality.”
Other committee members, as of April, include Jaiwon Shin, associate administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration; Carl Esposito, vice president of Honeywell Aerospace; and Howard Attarian, senior vice president of flight operations for United Airlines.
