Piedmont Natural Gas opened its 11th compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Tuesday in response to growing demand for natural gas to fuel cars and trucks.
The station is located adjacent to the operations and customers care center that Piedmont opened in 2017 near I-95. The new CNG refueling station replaces an existing Piedmont station.
“Piedmont is committed to sustainable business practices, and we are doing our part to help make CNG more widely available as an alternative fuel source,” Karl Newlin, senior vice president and chief commercial officer for natural gas operations for Piedmont’s parent company, Duke Energy, said. “By replacing our existing station in Fayetteville, we’re now able to better serve our customers and help even more companies lower their carbon footprint by making this fuel source available.”
Piedmont reported that CNG sales grew 25 percent in 2017, displacing more than 6 million gallons of gasoline and diesel. Piedmont now has seven stations in North Carolina, three stations in South Carolina and one location in Tennessee. The Fayetteville station marks the second new station opened by Piedmont over the last year.
Piedmont has also converted 40 percent of its vehicle fleet to CNG and expect to continue that trend going forward.
