North Carolina Ports recently announced the appointment of Benjamin M. Massa as director of carrier and trade development.
In this role, Massa will grow and expand Port of Wilmington’s container business.
Massa previously served as commercial director and associate vice president of sales and marketing for United Arab Agencies. In this role, he was responsible for all sales and marketing related to imports and exports.
During the fourth quarter of 2016, the company’s year-over-year import volume grew 21 percent while export volume grew 48 percent. With United Arab Shipping Co., Massa increased trans-Pacific trade volume by 55 percent, making the company an emerging ocean carrier.
Massa also worked for six years with the Jacksonville Port Authority. There, he developed new cargo business opportunities, terminal operating business opportunities and carriers, resulting in more than 26 percent growth.
“Ben brings a wealth of experience from leadership roles in port development, ocean carrier trade management, as well as agency operations and management,” Hans Bean, North Carolina Ports vice president, trade development, said. “NC Ports has experienced monumental growth in container business in the last year and Ben’s vital role will allow us to continue that growth today and into the future.”
The Ports of Wilmington and Morehead City are poised for great success, Massa said.
