Thanks to cooperation with Crowley Maritime Corp, Florida’s Port Everglades has created a new online program to expedite the export process for vehicles.
Previously, all documentation had to be physically delivered to a local customs trade office, causing hold ups and time delays. The new program allows for a certain sense of automation of the process and is the first of its kind in the United States. At present, exporters shipping used vehicles to locations in the Caribbean, Central America, and others are all eligible for testing of the program.
“The convenience of this program for all parties involved can’t be overemphasized,” Nelly Yunta, Crowley vice president, said. “It goes without saying that offering an automated, online program for exporting used vehicles is a major trade advantage for South Florida. This effort is the result of years of hard work, and it is our hope that it will be a successful experience that has long-term value.”
For participants, documentation can now be submitted day or night for organizers to review, process and approve or deny. Additionally, those exporters no longer need to make multiple copies of the same documentation–as the files are now electronic, the reviewers have as many copies as they need.
If the program proves successful, it will be reviewed at the end of March and considered for implementation on a broader scale.
