The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA), representing third-party logistics companies, and the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL), the nation’s largest freight transportation association, recently released their updated joint Broker-Shipper contract.
The contract has been in the works since last year with members of both organizations meeting in small working groups.
In April 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Sanitary Transportation of Food Final Rule went into effect. Many of the contract changes address this rule.
The next step is to address the Food Safety Modernization Act.
Best industry practices help advance professionalism and fair trade, TIA said.
“Our respective organizations sought to integrate existing laws, regulations and legal interpretations and not place undue stress onto the other party,” Jeff Tucker, NITL Highway Committee Chairman and CEO of Tucker Company Worldwide, said. “We’re pleased to provide this benefit to our members and our industry. All of TIA’s model contracts are exclusive to TIA members and can be found under the member’s only section of the TIA website – www.tianet.org. Likewise, NITL members have access through the member site at NITL.org to access exclusive NITL model agreements and contacts.”
Last month, NITL hosted its transportation summit. The event brought together professionals in the freight transportation sector.
