FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company, recently opened an international express and cargo hub at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
The hub will provide FedEx with greater access to overseas markets for customers located in eastern China.
“The FedEx Shanghai Hub marks another milestone that helps support the economic growth of east China,” Karen M. Reddington, president of FedEx Express Asia Pacific, said. “By continuously enhancing our services and facilities, we can provide our customers an edge in the fast-moving and ever-changing business environment,”
The 439,632-square-foot facility is the largest of its kind at the airport. It includes a Customer Care Center, China Customs, China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine, and a Cold Chain Center for the healthcare industry with temperature-controlled storage ranging from -22°C to 25°C.
Shanghai is one of the largest international shipping centers. For 10 consecutive years, it has ranked in the top three. Last year, 3.8 million tons of cargo and mail passed through the city.
FedEx expects 66 weekly flights in and out of the hub. The facility has the capacity to process up to 36,000 packages and documents per hour with its fully automated sorting system.
To reduce logistics cost, the facility uses information technology.
