The Port of Brunswick saw a sizeable uptick in shipping from the Honda Motor Company this year, with 47,700 vehicles passing through.
That number amounted to nearly triple Honda’s business through the port and brought in 34,700 more vehicles than the previous year. Hoping to keep that trend going, the Georgia Ports Authority is also planning to expand auto processing infrastructure in years to come. The news comes on the heels of a Site Selection report that ranked Georgia as the top state in which to do business for five years running.
“Honda’s partnership with the Port of Brunswick is one of many bright spots in our finished vehicle supply chain,” Charles Kendig, assistant vice president for Automobile Operations at American Honda, said. “The port’s proximity to open ocean, its expansive and expandable capacity, the connections to our inland supply chain, award-winning auto processors and — perhaps most importantly — the complete alignment between state and local government on finding business-friendly solutions for shippers makes the Port of Brunswick an easy choice.”
Beyond Honda, the port has handled more than 600,000 vehicles last fiscal year, though that remains well within their capacity of 800,000. They intend to eventually up that capacity to 1.4 million cars, trucks, and tractors. At the Brunswick auto port alone, they maintain 90,000 spaces.
