The American Road and Transportation Builder’s Association (ARTBA) recently launched the Transportation Construction Safety Center.
The center will develop policy and engage with lawmakers as well as federally supported training programs and an Online Learning Management System that offers professional development hours and safety training.
The center also will offer an internationally recognized professional certification program, a scholarship program to help children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled, and national awards that recognize safety.
It will operate the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse. The clearinghouse will hold the collection and analysis of roadway construction safety data as required by federal law.
Over the past 20 years, ARTBA has conducted 20 national or international safety conferences and workshops and has developed more than 40 safety training courses and written more than 25 technical guides. It has responded to more than 2 million requests for safety information.
“Safety has always been a core ARTBA competency,” ARTBA Chairman Matt Cummings said. “The safety center is the online gateway to help industry professionals take advantage of the many programs and services that are aimed at improving safety for workers and motorists in roadway work zones.”
An overview of the center will be mailed to all ARTBA members.
