Scott Mugno, FedEx Ground vice president of safety, sustainability, and vehicle maintenance, recently was nominated by President Donald Trump for the position of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) assistant secretary of labor.
Mugno has been with FedEx since 1994, moving from FedEx Express to FedEx Ground in 2011. He leads four departments of approximately 200 people with the goal of creating a safe work environment for FedEx Ground’s 95,000 employees.
Mungo refers to himself as the company’s brain coach.
In addition, he has served on several American Trucking Associations (ATA) committees and is chairman of the American Transportation Research Institute’s Research Advisory Committee.
The nomination is supported by the ATA
“Scott is a very familiar face to ATA, having been a longtime and active member in our organization,” ATA President and CEO Chris Spear said. “Throughout that whole time, he has been a strong and committed voice for safety and responsibility. He is an outstanding choice to lead OSHA and I look forward to working with him after his swift confirmation.”
At this year’s National Truck Driving Championships, FedEx Ground filled 170 of the 427 spots at the event and won six of the nine classes.
FedEx has been accident-free for a year.
