The compressed natural gas (CNG) heavy vehicle grant program will make $200,000 available to fund the purchase of these vehicles, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities recently announced. Funds are to be used to fund the purchase of CNG trucks.
The grant will be awarded to municipalities as well as partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies and nonprofit organizations registered to do business in New Jersey.
Applications, however, are limited to Bergen, Camden, Gloucester, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, and Ocean counties. These counties have been classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups by the Department of Environmental Protection’s air quality index.
Grants are limited to Class five to Class eight trucks with a cap of $40,000 per applicant and $20,000 per vehicle.
Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis.
“This is yet another positive step in implementing the State Energy Master Plan policies that support alternative fuel vehicles comprehensively and are accelerating the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles including electric and CNG vehicles,” Board President Richard Mroz said. “In making these grants available we can gauge interest in cleaner and quieter running CNG trucks and buses.”
Applications are posted on the board’s website as well as the New Jersey Clean Energy Program website.
