Norwegian Cruise Line will nearly double its room for guests come 2018 when it launches the 4,000 passenger vessel Norwegian Breakaway from the Port of New Orleans.
The vessel will immediately become the largest cruise ship to launch from the nation’s sixth-largest cruise port, sitting at 1,068. Once deployed, the Norwegian Breakaway will undertake 10 and 11-day cruises for the sailing season, carrying passengers to ports throughout the Caribbean.
“We are thrilled to bring our signature Breakaway-class ship to this important homeport,” Andy Stuart, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, said. “We want to provide more opportunities for our guests across the country to explore beautiful destinations and enjoy all the spectacular features of our newest ships, along with the freedom and flexibility that only a Norwegian cruise can offer.”
Current plans have the ship undertaking a two week dry dock period next spring. At that time its public spaces will be overhauled, with new flooring, updated furniture, new decor, and new carpeting for the staterooms. It will then be ready for deployment in the fall.
