American Honda Motor Co. set a record for total sales in September when 142,722 Honda and Acura vehicles were sold, reflecting a 6.8 percent increase from a year ago.
The Honda Division’s sales increased 7.4 percent, reaching 129,776 units.
Car sales jumped 14.5 percent, reaching 69,407 units. The Civic had the highest sales, 35,452 cars, a 25.8 percent increase from 2016. The Accord had 29,789 cars sold, a 9.5 percent increase.
Truck and SUV sales grew 0.2 percent to 60,369 units. The HR-V set a record, growing 17.1 percent to 8,024 units, its ninth consecutive month of increases. Sales of the CR-V and the Pilot also were strong, selling 30,956 and 10,295 units respectively.
“Honda is enjoying a sales situation that, while still favoring truck growth, has been punctuated by new strength on the car side of the equation,” Jeff Conrad, senior vice president of the Automobile Division of American Honda, said. “After a strong media launch of the 2018 Accord last week, we’re excited to see how this great new car contributes in the coming months.”
The Acura Division’s sales grew 1 percent, reaching 12,946 units thanks to strong sales of the MDX and RDX. The ILX saw its fourth consecutive month of sales, jumping 33.4 percent.
