The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) board of directors recently elected John Schroer as association president.
Schroer is commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Prior to assuming that role in January 2011, he was mayor of Franklin, Tenn. He also has served on several AASHTO committee positions, including chairman of the Strategic Management Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance and Administration.
“It is an honor to be elected by the AASHTO board to serve as president of our association,” Schroer said. “One of my goals will be to make sure that AASHTO is on the cutting-edge of innovation, to ensure states are ready to meet the many challenges that new transportation technologies will bring.”
Schroer said his priority is sustainable, infrastructure and transportation funding at the federal level.
Additionally, Carlos Braceras was elected vice president. He is the executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation and previously worked as deputy director and chief engineer. He previously served on the AASHTO board as secretary-treasurer.
Scott Bennett was also elected secretary-treasurer. He is director of the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) and has worked for ARDOT for more than 20 years. In 2010, he was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineering.
