The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Polish Air Navigation Service Provider (PANSA) and a variety of industry stakeholders recently entered into a partnership to develop a National Airspace Strategy for Poland.
According to IATA data, the demand for aviation in the country is expected to double over the next 20 years, generating an estimated 1.5 million flights on a yearly basis. Further, passenger volumes are projected to grow at a rate of approximately 5.6 percent per annum to more than 68 million passengers per year by 2030.
“The modernization of Polish airspace is an essential part of our country’s development plans and the creation of a national strategy that brings together all the organizations tasked with contributing to this important initiative is considered a top priority,” PANSA CEO Janusz Niedziela said.
As part of the new strategy, IATA and PANSA will cover the future of air traffic management in Poland, airspace changes for increased capacity, more efficient routes that reduce fuel burn and improve environmental performance, enhance network resilience and business continuity, and strengthen cooperation among European partners to accelerate goals within IATA’s Single European Sky initiative.
“The partnership between PANSA and IATA will be crucial to the vital task of maximizing the efficiency of Poland’s air connectivity,” IATA Director General Alexandre de Juniac said. “PANSA has shown real vision to bring airlines and other stakeholders into the strategic development of Polish airspace.”
